Invented and patented by Pete Donoho (Horseshoe
Pete) in the mid-1980s, the Cal-Flip was the first shoe specifically designed
for the flip pitch. Pete was a top flip player in the Western U.S. and he
wanted a shoe that would land "cleats down", giving him the same gripping and
stopping advantages as turn throwers have from the specially designed cleats on
a pitching shoe.
Working closely with the foundry, Pete designed
and manufactured a premium shoe that was perfectly balanced for the flip pitch, as well
as reversing the grabbing cleats from the thumb cleat to give the flip pitcher
the same advantage that the turn pitchers have enjoyed for years, the ringers
stay on!
His invention, the Cal-Flip Horseshoe (named
after his home state of California), put flip players and turn players back on
even ground-- It was a revolution in the horseshoe world at the time and it
totally legitimized the flip style of pitching for the first time.
Soon after the Cal-Flip went on the market, World
Champion Sue Snyder flipped her way to victory using the Cal-Flip. Although
Pete passed away in 1995, his legend lives on as his shoe is still pitched in
championships all over the country!
We are proud to be in cooperation with the Donoho
family on production of this premium shoe. It's an honor to carry on the tradition
that "Horseshoe Pete" and his Cal-Flip horseshoe established in the horseshoe
world. The Cal-Flip has always been recognized as the standard in the flip shoe
industry and we hope to keep it that way.
Some of this might be a bit
redundant, but it's all worth saying again...This shoe is always in stock, year
round, and it is
manufactured from the highest quality, most durable alloy on the market and
carries our famous one-year no hassle factory warranty... If they break under
warranty, like all the shoes we make, you'll have a new pair immediately... we

When you proceed
to the next page to enter this item into your shopping cart, you
will be prompted to choose quantity, color and weight options. The color
option is pretty basic, but the weight option requires a bit of
explanation...
In the weight
selection box, you will be asked to choose from three selections:
official weight, medium and heavy. The official weight of a
horseshoe is 2 lbs. 8 oz. and the NHPA allows for a variance of two
ounces, making the maximum weight 2 lbs. 10 oz.
If you select
"Official Weight" you will get horseshoes within that range and that
generally satisfies most everyone.
Occasionally,
some advanced pitchers want to specify shoes on the lighter
side or heavier side of that range and that's why we have the other
two selections. If "Medium" is requested you'll get shoes
at the bottom of the weight range and if "Heavy" is selected you'll
get shoes near the maximum weight. Obviously, it's only a two ounce
range, so the difference is nearly imperceptible to most people.
But for those who have a preference, those options are there.
It seems those who've been at it a while seem to prefer the slightly
heavier shoe.

Note: If you want
to order multiple pairs of the same item with different colors and
weights on each you may have to enter the items individually into
