Joan
Elmore of Mt. Juliet, TN defeated Canada's best, Sylvianne Moisan, in a
play-off for the Women's World Championship in Springfield, IL on
August 8th, winning her 3rd world title! Joan went 19-1, pitching
85.0% for the tournament with her Imperial horseshoes! Fourteen women in
the group averaged over 70% ringers, five of them averaged over 80% with
both Elmore and Moisan topping the list at 85% each... that was no walk
in the park win for Joan... she earned her 3rd title the hard way, no
doubt! |

For the
seventh straight year and for the fifteenth time overall, Alan Francis
of Defiance, OH won the Men's World Championship in Springfield,
IL on August 8th... He went 19-0 in the finals setting a new world
record of 90.26% ringers... that's 917 ringers out of 1,016 shoes
pitched, making Francis the first person to ever average over 90%
ringers in the championship finals of the world tournament! Alan met
Brian Simmons of Vermont, also undefeated, in the final game to play for
the title. The marathon game went 140 shoes, Francis throwing 126
ringers to Simmons' 125 with Francis winning narrowly in a come from
behind victory, final score of 40 - 37... awesome pitching by both men
in the longest 40-point game ever recorded in the men's competition! |
